Extra Info

Built in 1890 by Frederic Savage, No. 1 Gallopers first made its debut for Irish showman William Toft; the ride travelled Southern Ireland up until around 1945, when the Toft family decided to put it in storage at their yards. The machine was stored for around 45 years until Keith Emmitt purchased what remained of the set in 1989. After several visits by Cliff Dorman and Lawrence Bishton, they made a plan to purchase and collect the ride from Emmitts. Over the 89/90 Winter period, through hard work from nearly the entire Bishton family as well as a large contingent of the Showmen family, the ride was restored. The machines 1st outing after restoration was nearly 100 years after its debut.
